Leave your preconceived notions at home as you embark on a mind-bending journey with six of today’s most visionary authors.
Brimming with humour and heartache, this collection of short stories maps the roads we took to get here and the paths that lie ahead.
The present may be a gift, but the future and the past both come with a price.

My thoughts:

I recently read an early reader’s copy of The Time Traveler’s Passport, a new short story collection from Amazon Publishing, and had such a good time with it. Edited by John Joseph Adams, it brings together six imaginative takes on time travel. Each story explores not just the mechanics of moving through time, but also how our choices, regrets, and memories shape who we are.

The theme is clear and fun: time travel isn’t just about jumping eras or fixing history – it’s about identity, choices, regrets, memory, and how the past and future shape us. The blurb sums it up nicely: “Six short stories. Infinite possibilities.”

The variety is great: some stories lean into big, speculative ideas while others are more emotional and character-driven, which keeps things feeling fresh.
Two stories really stood out for me: John Scalzi’s 3 Days, 9 Months, 27 Years, which follows a time-tourism technician navigating the ethical quirks of his job with Scalzi’s trademark wit and sharpness; and R. F. Kuang’s haunting “Making Space,” a quieter but powerful story about a childless couple and the eerie, emotional consequences of making room for the future.

Not every story hit quite as hard as those two. Some felt a little underdeveloped, but overall, the anthology is clever, heartfelt, and super readable, even if you’re not usually a big sci-fi person. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves stories that mix imagination with emotion and offer plenty to think about in just a few pages. A solid four stars from me. The collection is thought-provoking, varied, and genuinely fun to read.

The collection is free to read and listen to for free for Prime and Kindle Unlimited members. Available from November 3rd 2025.
