A beautiful book to connect us after such a challenging time.
‘Dark clouds were looming in the distance. We watched them gather, and we wondered… When will it come? How long will it last?’
A monumental storm brings huge and sudden change. We follow a man and his dog through the uncertainty that it brings to their lives. Through their eyes, we see the difficulties of being apart, the rollercoaster of emotions that we can all relate to, and the realisation that by pulling together we can move through difficult times with new perspective, hope and an appreciation of what matters most in life.

My thoughts:
In this beautifully illustrated, warm and uplifting book, Luke Adam Hawker reminds us of the things that are so important to us as humans.
Hawker’s pen drawings are meticulously detailed, and so recognisable and familiar. They really strike a chord next to the beautifully reflective words.
This book isn’t full of words, it is much more about the power of the visuals, and the illustrations convey so much meaning on every page.
This is and gentle and philosophical little book looks at the events of 2020 and how we can cope with the challenges that life throws us in general. In some ways it reminded me a lot of The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse. The book tells the story of the pandemic in words and pictures but it’s so much more too. It captures the past year perfectly.
It is moving and touching. Quite possibly the book everyone needs to uplift them as we tentatively step forward into a new chapter ‘together’.
This is just a quick read but something that can be quoted and re-read many times. It’s certainly one that I will pick up if I need a little moment of positivity this year. A must have for your bookshelf in 2021.
