Could there be a little bit of magic in a fresh start?
When the love of your life says you’re not The One, who are you?
Lizzy and Ian have been a couple since the first week of University. Now, after celebrating a decade together, everyone thinks they’re about to get engaged.
Instead, a romantic escape to Dubai leaves Lizzy with no ring, no fiancé and no future.
Lizzy is heartbroken – but through the tears, she sees an opportunity. This is her moment to discover what she’s been missing while playing Ian’s ideal ‘better half’.
But how much has Ian changed her, and who would she be without him?
Determined to discover who she is at heart, Lizzy sets out to rediscover the girl she was before – and, in the meantime, have a little fun…

My thoughts:
Some Kind of Wonderful is the first book I’ve read by Giovanna Fletcher, and I went in with high hopes from the start. I was expecting a gentle and lighthearted read; and nothing too serious but after a little while I realised that actually, I found it quite dull.
Having recently gone through a tough and totally unexpected breakup, the book follows lead character Lizzy in her recovery from the heartbreak as she attempts to redefine herself outside of a relationship.
Firstly, Lizzy was a nice enough character, and I could sympathise with her to a certain level, but honestly I just never found her particularly likeable in the book. I mostly felt that her life really wasn’t so bad and that at times she seemed a bit too wrapped up in focusing on her own problems, obsessing over her breakup instead of enjoying all the good things she still had in her life.
There was a great deal of padding in the narrative, and unnecessary details that made the pages drag, when all I really wanted was to read on and find the main plot points, the ups and downs, twists and turns that every good novel needs.
The writing style was not my favourite, but if the plot had been a bit more interesting and original, along with a lead character that I could relate to and route for a little better, I definitely could have really loved Some Kind of Wonderful. Sadly, in my opinion, it just wasn’t all that wonderful to be honest…
