Les Deux Magots
Picture
“In the Deux Magots I could see (Scott) Fitzgerald coming to meet me with his elegant and distinguished air”
- Morley Callaghan, That Summer in Paris.
Les Deux Magots has become one of my favourite spots to visit anytime I’m in Paris. It is a famous café in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, and once had a reputation as the rendezvous of the literary and intellectual elite of the city. And it’s easy to see why. The place is exactly what you imagine when you think of a literary café. Within close proximity to the beautiful Café de Flore, Hemingway was often seen writing in both, and regular visitors included the likes of the poets Rimbaud and Verlaine, André Breton and of course artists such as Pablo Picasso and Alberto Giacometti.

There really is nothing I love more than people-watching on Boulevard St-Germain on the terrace outside Les Deux Magots. It’s fascinating and such a wonderful way to soak up the exciting atmosphere of Paris, whether by day or night.

In the daytime they serve a great selection of tea and coffees.  It’s open daily until 1.30am, and offer an excellent range of wines, champagne, and liquors. I am particularly fond of the cocktails here and can highly recommend the Hemingway Special and Tequila Sunrise.
