In January 2020 our small book club met for the first time. We picked a relaxed coffee shop /wine bar location and used the first meetup as a chance to get to know one another a little and of course to choose which book to read first. We’d spoken in advance to try to come up with the best method for selecting the book and agreed on a couple of us each bringing two different book suggestions to the table. That way, the group would have four or five books to choose from and we could simply take a little vote on the night. This method worked really well, and everybody quickly agreed upon the book to start with. With everyone’s various hectic schedules and prior commitments, this allowed enough time to realistically finish the book and not feel pressured or hurried. It was ideal for me as I knew I’d also be reading lots alongside the book club pick.
We chose The Lido by Libby Page and agreed to meet again in a month.
