Dracula
Adapted for the stage by Nick Lane
Tonight I had the pleasure of attending Press night for Nick Lane’s stage adaptation of Dracula at the Theatre Royal Bath. This production takes Bram Stoker’s iconic original novel and breathes fresh life into it with a blend of Gothic horror, suspense and unexpected moments of tenderness. From the moment the curtains rose, the haunting atmosphere was set with moody lighting and a chilling sound design that immersed the audience in the eerie and unsettling world of Count Dracula.
One of the most striking aspects of the show was its seamless blend of stagecraft and storytelling. The innovative set design, coupled with creative use of shadows, lighting and projections, made for some truly spine-tingling sequences, particularly in the scenes where Dracula’s supernatural powers are hinted at but never truly revealed. It kept the audience on edge, which is exactly what I wanted from a new Dracula retelling.

The show strikes a perfect balance between horror and human drama, making it not just a tale of blood and terror but one of love, obsession, and the eternal struggle between good and evil. If you’re a fan of classic literature, Gothic horror, or just thrilling theatre, Dracula at Theatre Royal Bath is a must-see. Prepare to be both horrified and enchanted! This production has truly reawakened the legend of Dracula for a new audience, and it’s a theatrical experience I won’t soon forget.
Thanks again to Theatre Royal Bath for having me along to watch the show on press night.
